Continuous Hexagonal Technical Flooring – Pharmaceutical Industry

High-performance flooring system for industrial environments

In the pharmaceutical industry, it is essential to design a flooring system that can withstand frequent sanitation cycles, exposure to chemicals, and heavy traffic—while maintaining a safe, hygienic, and durable surface. For this project, an acid-resistant technical porcelain stoneware system was adopted, specifically developed for highly demanding industrial environments.

Substrate Preparation and Sectioning

The flooring system began with the construction of a reinforced concrete screed finished with quartz, designed to ensure maximum mechanical strength. After complete curing, the surface was scarified to prepare it for installation. Expansion joints were then cut into the reinforced concrete, ensuring proper sectioning and evenly distributing mechanical stress across the slab.

Installation with Hexagonal and Special Formats

The flooring was installed using an adhesive formulated to withstand the chemical and mechanical stress typical of pharmaceutical environments. The main area was built with 6 cm side hexagons, 14 mm thick—the only format capable of guaranteeing a continuous, uniform, and easily sanitized surface. For linear edges such as perimeters and drainage channels, a 10x20 cm rectangular format (14 mm thick) was used, ensuring both functionality and visual continuity.

Safety and Chemical Resistance Performance

The flooring surface features a certified anti-slip finish, ensuring worker safety even in the presence of liquids. Joint grouting with INDUSTRIA PROEPOXI provides the mechanical and chemical resistance required in high-stress environments, preserving flooring performance even after intensive cleaning and sanitation cycles. The result is a continuous technical flooring system that fully meets the pharmaceutical and chemical industries’ strict requirements for durability, safety, and hygiene—guaranteeing long-term performance in high-load operating environments.
