In Belgium, a full-body porcelain stoneware flooring system was installed for an indoor swimming pool and its adjoining wet areas. The project included the installation of non-slip surfaces compliant with EN 16165, specifically designed to ensure constant grip in the presence of water, steam, and cleaning agents. The technical objective was to guarantee surface continuity, safe footing, and resistance to frequent sanitization cycles, while maintaining visual uniformity across all functional zones.

Pool Floors Offering Maximum Grip and Continuity

The flooring system was developed using the Colourstyle collection, size 30×30 cm and thickness 8.4 mm, paired with 15×15 cm skirting tiles to ensure a seamless junction between floor and wall. The chosen colors — Ocra, Fumo, Panna, and Antracite New — allow for clear distinction of functional areas and enhance visual perception of the water zones through luminance contrast. Colourstyle surfaces, classified from R10 to R12 depending on the finish, meet the A-B-C categories of the EN 16165 standard, offering excellent slip resistance even in wet conditions and consistent performance over time.

Manufactured in full-body technical porcelain stoneware, the flooring ensures outstanding resistance to water, heat, and the chemical agents used in daily maintenance. The material’s structure provides dimensional stability, chemical resistance, and durability against the thermal variations typical of indoor wet environments. Slip-resistant properties remain stable over time, even after repeated sanitization and disinfection cycles.

Construction Details and Functionality in Wet Environments

The use of coordinated skirting tiles eliminates peripheral discontinuities, simplifying cleaning and maintenance. The flooring was laid with the correct slope toward the drainage points, preventing water stagnation and ensuring efficient runoff. The result is a continuous, non-slip, and easy-to-maintain surface, ideal for indoor pools, changing rooms, and access areas.
