Full-body raised flooring – Winery cellar in Franciacorta

A durable and functional flooring system for wine production environments.

For a winery in Franciacorta, the flooring project involved the installation of a technical porcelain stoneware system, engineered to resist the chemical agents typical of wine production and the daily mechanical loads—while ensuring safety and durability.

Screed Preparation

The screed was made with controlled-grain sand and cement at a ratio of 250 kg per m³. This dosage ensures the right balance between mechanical strength and flexibility: a higher ratio would increase strength but reduce elasticity, while a lower ratio would compromise durability. Polypropylene fibers were added to the mix to control shrinkage during drying and prevent the formation of surface micro-cracks. The screed was also reinforced with latex, a polymer that improves adhesion to the substrate and enhances flexural and abrasion resistance. Finally, an electro-welded mesh was placed 3 cm above the subfloor. The mesh acts as structural reinforcement to prevent major cracks under heavy loads or settlement, while the fibers manage surface shrinkage.
This combination of components ensures a uniform, stable, and durable base—ideal for supporting the technical flooring of the winery.

Installation of the Two-Tone Flooring System

The flooring was installed using a small rectangular format (12.5x25 cm, 14 mm thick), applied with C2 TE S1 adhesive using the double-buttering technique. The format recalls the look of traditional early 20th-century terracotta bricks and allows the necessary slopes for proper liquid drainage. The choice of a two-tone flooring solution was not only aesthetic but also functional, helping to visually compartmentalize the surface.

Safety and Chemical Resistance

The surface is anti-slip, ensuring worker safety even in the presence of moisture and acidic substances. Joint grouting with INDUSTRIA PROEPOXI provides the required chemical resistance, particularly against acetic acid, which is inevitably present in wine production.
With Cipa Gres, the flooring combines chemical resistance, technical performance, and aesthetic care—meeting the safety and durability requirements of a modern winery.
